Theme: Editorial Cartoon, Caricature and Humorous Design

 

Regulation
1. NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE HALL

a) The World Press Cartoon integrates three categories: Editorial Cartoon, Caricature and Humorous Design.
b) The World Press Cartoon is not a thematic salon; the objective is to distinguish the best works created and published in 2021 in each of the three categories.
c) In the category of CARTOON EDITORIAL are considered all the works that deal with current issues and events.
d) In the CARTOON category, works of caricature in the strict sense are considered, being exclusively humorous portraits admitted.
e) In the HUMOR DESIGN category, works that deal with themes with no direct relation to current events are considered.
f ) Authors are free to present the works they consider the best but, obviously, the characters, themes and events of more universal reading are the most suitable for an international exhibition of these characteristics.

2. EXHIBITION

a) The exhibition of the selected works and the award ceremony will take place in the spring of 2021, at CCC – Centro Cultural e de Congressos das Caldas da Rainha.

3. ADMISSIBILITY

a) Only the originals of the works are admitted to the contest.

b) Quality impressions of works elaborated by digital or mixed techniques will be considered originals when signed by the author’s hand, with the condition that the description of the techniques and software used is expressed in the registration form.

c) In case works elaborated by digital or mixed techniques are presented to the contest, it is mandatory to attach the respective digital files, on CD, DVD or USB flash drive.

d) The format of the works must not exceed the European standard A3: 420 x 297 mm.

e) Each cartoonist may submit one original for each area of the show: Editorial Cartoon, Caricature and Humor Design.

f) It is a condition of admissibility that the works have been originally published between January 1st and December 31st, 2021, in newspapers and magazines of regular periodicity and sale to the public, or in professional on-line publications of recognized journalistic nature.

g) To prove the condition expressed in the previous paragraph, in the case of paper publications, each original must be accompanied by the respective full page, in which the date and title of the newspaper or magazine are visible (cuttings, collages, photocopies or other forms of reproduction of publications are not accepted).

h) In the case of on-line publication, each original must be accompanied by a high-resolution printed reproduction of a screenshot of the page on which it was published, in which the date and title are clearly visible, authenticated on the back by the editor.

i) In order to confirm the admissibility of cartoons published online, it is essential that the access link to the publication page is correctly filled in the registration form and remains functional until 31 March 2021.
j) The author must attach the headline of the newspaper or magazine in which the competing works were published, with size and quality that allow their reproduction.
k) If the original has a title, subtitles or other words, they must be translaed into English and included on the label that accompanies the original.
l) Works competing in the Caricature category must mention the name of the caricatures.

m) Works must be received at the organization’s secretariat by January 31, 2021.

4. PACKAGING

a) The works must be sent in flat packaging, between two rigid cards.
b) The packaging, clearly visible, must be marked: “NO COMMERCIAL VALUE”.

 

5. IDENTIFICATION OF WORKS AND AUTHORS

a) Each work sent must correspond to a registration form and identification of the work, pasted on the back of the original.

6. JURY

a) The jury shall consist of five members, including the hall director, who shall preside.
b) The World Press Cartoon organization, under the direction of the president of the jury, will select the originals that will be part of the exhibition and its catalog.
c) The jury will be responsible for awarding prizes and honors.
d) The decisions of the jury are taken by majority and cannot be appealed.

7. RETURN

a) All works that meet the conditions of admissibility will be returned to the authors, whether or not they are part of the exhibition, with the exception of the awarded works.
b) The exhibited works will be returned after the main exhibition in Caldas da Rainha and subsequent travelling exhibitions.
c) Impressions of digitally created works will not be returned.
d) The author must indicate in the registration form his complete address with street, city, postal code and country.
e) For the purpose of returning originals and sending catalogs, addresses in the form of post office box or box are not accepted.

8. CATALOGUE

a) Participants with selected works will receive a copy of the hall catalog.

9. COPYRIGHT

a) The act of registration of a work automatically implies the assignment of the respective repro
