The 5th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest is calling for applications

The 5th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest is being organized this year under the theme “New Generation, and New Generation Addictions (NGNGA)”. Mr. M. Nurullah Atalan, General Manager of Green Crescent, explaining that the ongoing pandemic had influenced the choice of subject of this year’s contest, said: “We believe that our artists will explain, in creative ways, the habits of the new generation, the transformation of technology misuse into addiction, and how the pandemic is affecting these.”

Green Crescent is for the fifth time organizing the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest, in which the effects of addiction are depicted in a creative manner. Works submitted to the contest are expected to focus on the causes of addiction, how addiction spreads, the effects of addiction, and responsibilities related to online betting and online gambling addiction, under the headings of “The Effects of the Pandemic” and “Digital Games” and the main theme of “New Generation, and New Generation Addictions”. The contest is open to all national and international amateur/professional cartoonists; entries can be submitted to https://cartooncontest.yesilay.org.tr/en until January 31, 2021.

Underlining that cartoons can be effective tools for raising awareness of addictions and drawing attention to the damage they cause, Mr. Atalan, General Manager of Green Crescent, stated:

“Our International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest has attracted increasing interest over the last 4 years, with 479 cartoonists from 55 countries submitting 908 different artworks to last year’s contest. This year, considering the effects of the pandemic, we have chosen the theme ‘New Generation, and New Generation Addictions’.  We believe that our artists will explain, in creative ways, the habits of the new generation, the transformation of technology misuse into addiction, and how the pandemic is affecting these. We expect cartoonists from all over the globe to be excited about coming up with works depicting a problem that affects the entire world, and we are anticipating intensive participation from abroad, as has been the case in previous events. We are looking forward to seeing entries that inspire us in our own works with their images and messages.”

This year, the total prize money has been increased to 44,000 TRY

Works submitted to the contest will be evaluated both by cartoonists, and by experts in the field of addiction. At the end of the 5th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest, a first prize of 12,500 TRY, a second prize of 10,000 TRY and a third prize of 7,500 TRY will be given to the producers of the best entries. Moreover, three entries will receive excellence awards of 3,500 TRY, and one will be selected for the “Mazhar Osman Award”, also for 3,500 TRY.  Green Crescent will give out prizes totaling 44,000 TRY at the 5th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest.
